Screen shot 2010-01-12 at 4.01.38 PMBoth Continental and Delta Airlines passengers will now be paying more if they want to check their baggage.

Delta raised its baggage fee by $8 for the first bag and $7 for the second. Continental wants $5 more per bag.

SAVE MONEY: If you pay for your bags online, you’ll now be paying $23 for the first bag and $32 for the second. Those who pay at the airport will pay more:  $25/$35 respectively.

Who is generally exempt from checked luggage fees? First-class fliers, some frequent fliers, and military personnel on deployment.

Want to avoid checked baggage fees? Fly SouthWest, JetBlue, apply for an airline credit card, or stick with a carry-on.
