If you’re not familiar with the wines of Portugal, this 2007 Marquês de Borba Alentejo from João Portugal Ramos is a great introduction.
Wipe the characteristics of Portugal’s stereotypical Porto out of your thoughts because, although we love a high quality Port, this wine stands at the opposite end of the spectrum.
With slight hints of berry and pepper, yet not too fruity, the light tannins in this smooth-as-silk Alentejo won’t suck your mouth dry.
The wine leaves a long-lasting finish and a smile on your face.
Do your senses a favor and open this bottle at least 40 minutes before drinking.
Giving this 2007 Marquês de Borba Alentejo ample time to mingle with the air awakens not only the berries, but the spirit of the wine. You’ll find it’s well worth the wait.
Made with aragonez and trincadeira grapes, this wine is a true conversation starter.
An amazing wine at a phenomenal price. $$
Wine & Food Pairings
Pair this wine with a traditional Portuguese feijoada (bean stew), thyme-flavored dishes, lamb, pastas, or strong cheese such as Gorgonzola. It can make for a great sipping wine to go with light appetizers– or for the more adventuresome dry wine lovers (as we are), try it alone.
