Many tourists only think of making a trip to wine country over the summer or on long weekends, a time when everyone else wants to go.
If you’re looking to get the full wine country experience, fall is a magical time at the vineyards.
Here’s why:
Beautiful colors
Experience the beauty of grape leaves changing from green to various shades of red and orange. Fall is picture-perfect for wine tourists wanting a photo opportunity.
Looking for a breathtaking place to pose for your annual holiday card? Grab a glass a walk out to the vineyard!
Avoid the crowds
It’s less likely you’ll need to elbow your way to the tasting counter if you visit in the fall.
This particular season can be cold and sometimes rainy, so who thinks to visit a winery when it’s soooo not summer anymore. Thankfully, for us, not many!
Just remember that some wine tasting rooms might close or have limited off-season hours, so be sure to call ahead. If the winery is by appointment only, even better for you!
Wineries in action
Did you know fall is the busiest time for winemakers?
It’s the best time of year to see the winemaking process first-hand. Wineries celebrate the harvest, host grape stomps, and then spend long hours fermenting, pressing and racking.
If you call ahead and ask for a tour, many wineries are more than happy to show you around.
Great hotel rates
Off-season means great hotel rates, even in wine country!
Do your research because you might find it’s suddenly within your budget to stay at a swanky vineyard inn or cute Bed & Breakfast.
Adieu roadside motel!
